Cleaning products under the sink, read calmly

EWG’s cleaning guides taught a generation to grade the cabinet. Here’s a household version: directions first, marketing second.

Open under-sink cabinet with tidy cleaning bottles

Cleaners are where healthy-living apps and environmental scorecards overlap — and where people get overwhelmed by A–F grades. Start simpler: Can this household use it as directed? Store it safely? Ventilate? Then talk “greener” claims.

Package-first for cleaners

  • Dilution and contact time (especially disinfectants).
  • Ventilation and PPE language when present.
  • Keep out of reach / pet cautions.
  • Do not mix warnings (still ignored too often).

Then read the story on the bottle

“Plant-based,” “non-toxic,” and “green” are marketing until you check the ingredient disclosure your region requires. Prefer products that list what’s inside clearly — then decide if the tradeoffs fit your home.

IngreView bias: under-the-sink belongs in the same household catalog as pantry and lotion. One lens — different intensity.

Continue with pantry and personal care, same lens and the checker guide.

Educational context only — not medical, dietary, or allergy advice. Always verify allergens and safety-critical information on the product package and with qualified professionals when needed.
